RWE Tower Dortmund: Gerber Architekton
RWE Tower Dortmund: Gerber Architekton
With the new RWE Tower in the centre of Dortmund, Eckhard Gerber has designed a building that is both rational and effective in its urban impact. In its details and its overall appearance, the tallest office building in the city interacts with the surrounding buildings and open spaces. It occupies a prominent location and thus helps to define the grid of routes within the centre of the city. By choosing a perforated facade, which is logically derived from the structural and spatial system, the architect also offers an economic alternative for the climate engineering which deliberately refrains from the increasingly common practice of managing high-rise architecture by technological means. Olaf Winkler describes the functional development of the building's structure and analyses how Eckhard Gerber, following his reductionist design principles, succeeds in integrating the volume of a high-rise building into the "European City."
