Robert Mallet-Stevens et ses photographes - La collection Jean-Louis Cohen
The collection of photographs presented in this book comes from the agency of Robert Mallet-Stevens. Since the architect's archives were destroyed after his death, these images constitute a rare and valuable record. They cover Mallet-Stevens' entire career, from 1920 to the late 1930s, and showcase its full diversity: film sets, exhibition pavilions, shops, buildings, villas, and more.
Some are the only remaining traces of works that have since disappeared.
Many of these photographs bear annotations in the hand of the architect or his collaborators: these include details about the materials or colors of the furniture and objects, as well as instructions for framing or retouching for publication in the press.
Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition presented at Villa Cavrois from June 5 to September 2, 2018, this book reproduces the entirety of the Jean-Louis Cohen collection in the form of a comprehensive catalog organized chronologically.
