Mosher Drew: The First 75 Years shares the story of Architects Mosher Drew and the historic impact the practices has had on the region’s built environment. The monograph serves as a definitive chronicle of the firm’s history. Two years in the making, this volume traces Mosher Drew’s enduring influence on modern architecture in San Diego, from the firm’s earliest works, such as the landmark Coronado Bridge, to projects currently underway. Drawing extensively from never-before-published archival materials, including original drawings, photographs, writings, interviews, and publications, Mosher Drew: The First 75 Years offers an intimate portrait of the ideas and designs that have shaped the practice and the region. Uniquely, all proceeds from book sales directly fund the University of San Diego Robert Mosher Scholarship, supporting the next generation of architects.
Author Daniel López-Pérez, a PhD in the History and Theory of Architecture from Princeton University, is a Professor of Architecture and a founding faculty member of the Architecture Program at the University of San Diego. López-Pérez’s scholarship focuses on the historiography of modern architecture and its relationship to contemporary questions of technology, design-research, design-pedagogy, material, and environmental culture. He is the recipient of numerous research grants and awards including from the Spanish Ministry of Culture (ACE), Mexico’s National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA), Princeton University’s Barr Ferree Foundation, the Graham Foundation, and two Faculty Research Mentor Awards from the University of San Diego. Made possible in part by a Barr Ferree Foundation Fund awarded by the Department of Art and Archeology at Princeton University, López-Pérez is the author of R. Buckminster Fuller, Pattern-Thinking (Lars Muller Publishers, Zurich, 2020). Pattern-Thinking reassesses the work of R. Buckminster Fuller—unique hybrid between theoretician, architect, designer, educator, inventor, and author—as advancing contemporary models of design research, practice, and pedagogy. Pattern-Thinking is on the critic’s list of “2021 Best Art Books” of the LA Times, and is currently on its second edition. In professional practice, Lopez-Perez is the co-founder of Polyhaus ( www.polyhaus.com ) a design and building technology company that provides access to an easy-to-adopt, patented building system centered on resiliency, rapid assembly, and space maximization. Polyhaus was recognized as Dwell Magazine’s International list of “Best Prefabricated Homes” of 2025.
