"Let's say it, we need manufactured homes. Why manufactured? Because it is no longer just a matter of making one or more small parts of a house designed to be assembled; rather, all the parts tally with those of a machine that is completely mechanically assembled, without there being any need to make anything at all on site."

By way of a lecture given in Nancy at the end of the war, Jean Prouvé called upon the architects, technicians and politicians in charge of France's reconstruction to ponder the need for prefabricated homes. The Tropical House, which he himself designed some years later, would then appear as the perfect incarnation of this manifesto.
