A visual essay of Ilkka Suppanen's designs that showcases the poetry of light manifested in different contexts, including essays from eight contributing writers.

Ilkka Suppanen (born 1968) is a Finnish architect and designer whose studio philosophy is to "improve environments through material and immaterial lightness." In 1995, he founded Studio Suppanen in Helsinki. His first major success was as a part of the Scandinavian group of designers exhibiting at Snowcrash in Milan in 1997, who were hailed as reinventors of "Scandinavian modern." Suppanen's vision has manifested itself everywhere from Murano glass products to his Snowcrash chair to the Flying Carpet Divan made for Cappellini and the Finnish Euro coin. This selection of Suppanen's designs is a study on the element of lightness as evinced in various contexts such as material and architectural choices, philosophical considerations and aesthetic behaviors.
