Approaching an exhibition of the work of Albini, attempting to penetrate its complexity, the subject matter was divided into sections: architecture, under the direction of Cesare De Seta; design, under the direction of Marcello Fagiolo; low-cost and collective housing, under the direction of Biagio Garzena.
The exhibition covered more territory than the catalogue and, for coherency's sake, the three sections - architecture, design, housing - were presented together, in chronological order.
In the catalogue, however, the essays and other contributions maintain their autonomy. The thematic and temporal scope of the catalogue entries emphasizes points of greatest importance, that is, topics which are clarified by repeated reference.
(There is, then, some overlapping of subject matter; one should note in particular that the contributions of Farina and Grimoldi are complementary to the essay of Fagiolo). The writings reflect, in their diverse viewpoints, the pluralism of the current critical climate:
We are hoping that this will stimulate and advance an open and clarifying debate.
