In 1998 Barkow Leibinger achieved instant acclaim with the completion of their innovative laster factory near Stuttgart. Their approach to architecture is both functional and undogmatic, as can be seen in their earlier projects, in particular the much-publicized day-care and youth centers in Berlin Buchholz built in 1994. Industrial architecture forms an important part of the work of this young German-American practice formed in 1992. Recently their Biosphere Pavilion for the National Horticultural Show 2001 in Potsdam was completed. This book offers a selection of fourteen buildings and projects whose aesthetic effects and construction are documented in detail.
