For many years architect Álvaro Siza’s area of activity has extended beyond the boundaries of his native Portugal, transferring his ideas to a variety of contexts in Europe, the Americas, and recently also Asia. It is in this latest stage that his close association with compatriot Carolos Castanheira has taken on its full significance. The two have collaborated intensely in past projects, like the Anyang Pavilion and the Mimesis Museum, both in South Korea, as well as a building for Shihlien Chemical in China and the design for three works presented in this issue: a set of sculptural pavilions in South Korea, an art and design museum in China, and a mausoleum in Taiwan.
