In this issue we understand display to mean the exhibition as an arrangement in space that organises the relationship between objects and their observer. As the architecture of showing, the display forms a frame, a surround, a stage, or, at the very least, a plinth. In short, it removes things from the everyday world and exposes them. In this way it detaches them from the context in which they are usually perceived and understood and makes them compliant for use in other narratives, other contexts and other proximities to other things. This issue is devoted to the architecture of showing. We collect exhibition architecture and scenographies, show the architecture of museums, and reflect about architecture as an exhibit. We asked five exhibition makers about the field of tension between object and narrative. How can experiences be conveyed in the framework of an exhibition? How is the aura of the object created in the first place? What is the relationship of the presentation to the space in which it takes place? French/English/German
