Jacqueline Schoemakers research into the boundaries of urban environments results in texts, maps, interventions and performances dealing with the concept of community. The Undivided City presents a kind of horizontal archaeology, an observation of the effects of a policy instrument in which population groups are distributed through the city; an adverse effect being that human behaviour is normalised, resulting in uniformity. It focuses on the shifting borders between individual users of the urban space and the planned environment. Schoemaker walks straight lines through the city, thereby creating layers in which various urban facets are determined and analysed.
