Alberto Campo Baeza was born in Valladolid, Spain, in 1946 and later moved to Cádiz. His grandfather was an architect and his father a surgeon. He graduated from the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM) in 1971. His teachers were Alejandro de la Sota and Julio Cano Lasso. He wrote his doctoral thesis with architect Javier Carvajal in 1982. Since 1986, he has served as a full professor at ETSAM for more than 20 years. He has taught at ETH in Zurich, EPFC in Lausanne, the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Dublin, at the Bauhaus in Weimar among others. He spent a year as a research fellow at Columbia University in New York in 2001. A book of his writings, "The Constructed Idea," has been published in various languages.
