KOUDELKA. Cuhra, Jaroslav
Pap. New York, 2008
Book ID: 79050
A gripping photographic chronicle of the Soviet crackdown on the Prague Spring, when tanks rolled in to the city to put an end to political liberalization in Czechoslovakia. Thirty-year-old theater photographer Josef Koudelka captured the event, and the images were smuggled out of the country and into the hands of the Magnum photo agency, which distributed them credited to "an unknown Czech photographer" to avoid reprisals. The still-undercover Koudelka subsequently won the Robert Capa Award. This collection includes a host of never-before-seen images from Koudelka's personal archive.
296 pp., 250 duotone photos.
