Hidden Gems: Retracing Tradition and Modernity in the Monastic Architecture of Mandalay
Pap. Casa 2016
Book ID: 101350
By nature the architecture and urbanism of Southeast Asia is always hybrid and eclectic, and it is this very diversity and acculturation that is reflected in the city of Mandalay, Myanmar. In 2005 a joint program between the National University of Singapore and the University of Malaya was inaugurated, aimed at nurturing new generations of architects and cultivating new and sustainable approaches to heritage management. This is the fifth book published by the project. With detailed documentation, it presents two timber monasteries situated in the former royal capital, revealing their urban context, significant architectural elements, conservation histories, existing conditions, and more.
