Plecnik, Joze. Tomas Valena
Birkhauser 2022

Jože Plečnik (1872–1957) studied with Otto Wagner in Vienna. In 1911 he took over the chair from Jan Kotěra in Prague. His Viennese buildings are landmarks, in Prague he became the architect of Prague Castle, and in the 1920s he began to rebuild his hometown of Ljubljana.
A lot has been researched and published about Plečnik. However, Valena's considerations show new aspects of his work: his work in Prague, the influence of Roman-Italian inspiration in his work, dealing with "natural" terrain, the role of the existing building in the development of new liturgical spatial concepts in church conversions and the question to what extent it is appropriate to speak of humanistic urban redevelopment in "Plečnik's Ljubljana" - the topics of the new Plečnik book are equally interesting for beginners and experts.
